To be considered for a Cambridge Australia Scholarship (PhD or Masters), you must first apply for entry to the University of Cambridge.


Eligibility

  • To be eligible for a Cambridge Australia Scholarship, applicants must hold current Australian citizenship and have completed the majority of their pre-tertiary level education in Australia.

  • In addition, certain Cambridge Australia Scholarships Master’s awards have further requirements such as the location of previous tertiary study, state of current and/or previous residence, and a preference for a specific subject matter and/or Cambridge College. Please note that Cambridge Australia Scholarships will automatically consider you for any of our scholarships you are eligible to receive.

Funding deadlines vary according to your chosen course. Check the course directory to find out which funding deadline applies to you (they appear in the sidebar of every course entry).

Selection Process

All applications for both a place and a scholarship at the University of Cambridge must be made through its Graduate Admissions Office. Click here for details.

To ensure that you are considered for a Cambridge Australia Scholarship, you must tick the box that reads 'Do you wish to be considered for funding, including merit-based scholarship?'

Consideration for Cambridge Australia Scholarships awards is only for applicants who have already been offered a place at the University.

Cambridge Australia Scholarships will recieve your application automatically if you have selected that you wish to be considered for funding.

PhD Selection

To support the Cambridge Australia Scholarships PhD selection process, eligible candidates will be asked to submit the following additional information by email:

  • A personal statement of approximately 500 words, outlining your motivation and aspirations, how you plan to contribute to the Cambridge Australia Scholarships community during and after your studies and your potential future contribution to Australian society.

  • If relevant please include within your personal statement a description of any exceptional and/or extenuating circumstances that may have affected your academic or professional achievements to date.

  • PhD shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview (current format is virtual/online) after which successful candidates will be notified by email.

 

Timeline for the Cambridge Australia Scholarships PhD selection process

Early September - Early December

Applications open in early September and there are two deadlines you need to consider:

  • Course deadline

  • Funding deadline

You must apply by whichever deadline comes first. This will depend on the course you have chosen. Verify the funding deadline for your course here. The deadline is usually around the first week of December or the first week of January.

If your application (including supporting documents) is not submitted by the relevant deadline, it will be withdrawn. All application deadlines are 23:59pm (midnight) UK time on the stated date.

February/March

  • Receive an offer from Cambridge.

March

  • Personal Statement will be requested.

  • You will have one week to turn around the Personal Statement.

March

  • The Selection Panel will convene to consider applications.

  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews during March.

  • If you are not invited for an interview, assume your application for a CAS scholarship was unsuccessful.

Late March/Early April

  • Interviews will be undertaken by a panel of selected experts.

April

  • Cambridge Australia Scholarships and and Cambridge International Trust scholarship offes will be made by the end of April.

It's important to note that specific dates may vary depending on the academic year and the particular course you are applying to, so it's recommended to double-check the official deadlines and schedule on the Cambridge website or contact the admissions office for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

 

Masters selection

Once you have been offered a place to study at Cambridge University, if you selected the box that you wished to be considered for funding, your application will be forwarded to Cambridge Australia Scholaships.

Your application will be reviewed by a selection panel.

Masters shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview (current format is virtual/online) after which successful candidates will be notified by email.

Please note that all decisions by the selection panel are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
